Self order kiosk

Self service kiosk software that runs on a tablet you own

Guests browse the menu, build a cart, and scan a code to pay on their phone. The kiosk is included in Growth at no extra cost.

How a kiosk order moves

From the kiosk to the kitchen

Three screens, drawn from the way the kiosk works.

  • Scan to pay on the phone

The cart ends in a QR code. The guest scans it, and the same cart opens on their phone to pay.

  • Pay at the counter

The kiosk places the order unpaid, and it waits in the order list until staff record cash or card.

  • The kitchen sees it

A paid order prints as a ticket, the same as an order from the register or the web.

Every order waits on one cashier

A simple order shouldn't need a cashier.

  • Guests stand in line to order something simple.
  • A kiosk menu no longer matches the one on your site.
  • Guests who pay at the counter stay anonymous.

A self ordering kiosk with the checkout guests already use

The kiosk hands the cart to the phone, and the storefront handles the rest.

01

A page, not an app

The kiosk is a web page, so there's no app store and no sign-in. It keeps the tablet awake and says so when the connection drops.

02

Your menu, cart, and upsells

A guest browses the menu on the kiosk, opens an item, and builds a cart with the same upsells your storefront shows.

03

Pay on the phone

The cart ends in a QR code. The guest scans it and pays on their phone with a wallet or card. Opened within 30 minutes, it asks for no name, phone, email, or billing address first.

04

A standing code to skip the kiosk

A code on the start screen opens your storefront on the phone for a guest who'd sooner order there. The kiosk resets once a phone takes a cart and never shows a guest's details.

05

Pay at the counter

The kiosk places the order unpaid. It waits in the order list until staff record cash or card. You turn it on per location, and it needs no card reader.

06

Pay on the kiosk with a reader

Guests pay right on the kiosk with a card reader. Assign one of ours to take cards on Appetier Pay. The D135 is the one exception, because it runs only in the Appetier app. You can also use your provider's reader on your merchant account, if it can connect to Appetier and your provider allows it on a kiosk.

07

Rewards after paying

After paying, a code on the order number screen lets a guest add the purchase to their rewards. The screen stays up 20 seconds, and guests who don't scan stay anonymous.

08

Easy to read and to reach

Buttons are large, text scales, and the whole flow works with the tablet's screen reader. After 60 seconds untouched, the kiosk clears the cart for the next guest.

Get the kiosk running on a tablet today

Any tablet with a current browser will do. There's nothing to install.

01

Make a kiosk code

In the console, pick the location and make a kiosk code of six digits. Use it within ten minutes, and only once.

02

Enter it on the tablet

Open your kiosk page in the tablet's browser and type the code. Your menu fills the screen.

03

Lock the tablet to it

Add the page to the home screen, where it opens with no address bar. Then turn on the tablet's single-app mode so guests stay on the kiosk.

Guests see the menu your site shows

Items, photos, and options come from the console, with the item sheet and cart your storefront uses. The test drive shows that menu on a private preview of your restaurant.

A kiosk order reaches the POS you keep

Connecting a POS is optional. With one connected, a kiosk order paid on the phone reaches it like a web order, within what your POS allows.

Self order kiosk FAQs

What owners ask before a tablet becomes a kiosk.

How much does the self order kiosk cost?
Nothing extra. The kiosk is included in Growth, with no per-device fee. Kiosk orders count toward your direct sales, whether guests pay on a reader, at the counter, or on their phone. A location pays nothing under $500 of direct sales a month, and never more than $199.
What hardware does a restaurant kiosk need?
Your own kiosk screen or tablet works. Or order the Elo kiosk from Appetier, with our reader or your provider's on its side. A card reader matters only if guests pay on the kiosk itself.
Do guests need an app?
No. The code opens your storefront in the phone's browser, where a guest pays with a wallet or card.
Can a guest pay on the kiosk?
Yes, two ways. Pay at the counter works on any kiosk, and staff record the payment. Paying on the kiosk takes a reader assigned to it: ours on Appetier Pay, or your provider's. Your provider's reader works if it can connect to Appetier by API, Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi, and your provider must allow it on a kiosk.
What if a card declines?
The guest tries again on their phone. A retry of the same cart pays the same order, and a changed cart cancels the unpaid order it replaces.
Do kiosk orders reach my POS?
A kiosk order reaches a connected POS the way a web order does. The integrations page shows what each POS allows.
Can a hotel, stadium, or event venue use the kiosk?
Yes, anywhere guests order at a counter or a stand. The kiosk is a tablet that opens your storefront, so a hotel café, a stadium food stand, or a pop-up uses it the way a restaurant does. Orders reach a connected POS like any web order. Guests pay by wallet or card, or at the counter.
What happens when the connection drops?
The kiosk says so on screen. Handing a cart to a phone and placing a pay at the counter order both need a connection.

Hardware

Self service kiosk machines with the card reader built in

An Elo kiosk machine puts your menu on a tall touch screen, with a PAX A35 on the side for the card tap. Order it from Appetier, or run the kiosk on a tablet you already own.

Kiosk stands and screens, from us

Pick a stand that carries a receipt printer and a 22-inch touch screen to match. Screens are sold separately from stands, and any card reader we sell clips on.

Pay on the kiosk with a card reader

Guests who pay on the kiosk need a reader. Order ours from your console at the store price to take cards on Appetier Pay. The tablet stays yours.
