Appetier + Braintree integration

What works

With your access: Paste your merchant ID, public key, and private key from your Braintree account into the console. Appetier creates charges and reads payment status on your account. Braintree's sandbox is self-serve, and Braintree reviews your account before live payments.

On our own: Without Braintree, card checkout runs on Appetier Pay, and any processor works.

What it does

Takes cards at checkout through your Braintree account. Venmo and PayPal run on Appetier's own connection, not through Braintree.

Who it's for

Restaurants that already have a Braintree account and want to keep its card rates.

Keep Braintree for direct orders

Appetier Pay is the simplest way to take cards, and there is nothing to connect. A restaurant that already runs on Braintree can keep it instead. Braintree is owned by PayPal, but checkout takes cards through it and nothing else. Braintree's published US rate for cards is 2.89% + 29¢, and a chargeback costs $15. Braintree lists no monthly fee. Appetier adds nothing.

Guests pay in Braintree's own fields

Checkout shows card number, expiry, and security code fields that Braintree hosts, with a 3D Secure check before the charge. No card number reaches Appetier. If Braintree refuses the card, Appetier treats it as refused.

An order is paid when Braintree says so

Appetier marks an order paid on Braintree's answer to the charge, once Braintree submits it for settlement. A retry of the same order returns the first charge, never a second one. Braintree sends no card webhooks, so the console shows no webhook address for it.

Venmo and PayPal run apart from Braintree

Braintree takes cards here and nothing else. Appetier offers Venmo and PayPal on its own, without Braintree. A vendor who connects a PayPal Business account gets a Venmo button, and PayPal confirms each payment. A personal Venmo or PayPal account gets a pre-filled link and an order code, confirmed by a verified receipt email. Refunds and chargebacks for Braintree payments are handled in the Braintree Control Panel.

What you enter in the console

Three values from your Braintree account: your merchant ID, your public key, and your private key. Choose sandbox for a test order, then live to turn on checkout. The private key is stored encrypted and never shown again. Enter a new one to rotate it. Braintree then becomes the brand's single card processor.
